Ceilidh

Yesterday (3/18) Arcadia held a dinner and Ceilidh for the students study abroad throughout Scotland and the students here on Spring Preview. A ceilidh is a traditional Gaelic social gathering, which usually involves playing Gaelic folk music and dancing. It originated in Ireland, but is now common throughout Ireland and Scotland. It was great to see so many students that I haven’t seen since leaving AU for winter break and tell them about my time here and to hear about their experience.
It was an awesome meal though not really traditional at all with turkey, salmon, couscous, vegetable noodles, and an amazing array of desserts including cheesecake and champagne tarts. After the meal, the music began and the Edinburgh University New Scotland Country Dance Society did demonstrations of various traditional dances then it was our turn to try them out. It was a lot of fun, but this all took place after St. Patrick’s Day and after a few hours of very energetic dancing, we were all worn out.
Here you can see an example Highland dancing, Highland Fling, performed by the dance society… and here, Arcadia University students and faculty try it out.
